Watercolour Bird Art

I had no idea how many different species of birds visit my backyard until I started looking. One pleasant surprise is the Red-breasted nuthatch. They are only around in winter season here in southern Ontario and would come around quite often to the bird feeder filled with black oil sunflower seeds.

Nuthatches are known for walking up and down tree trunks and they can also walk along the underside of branches.

Acrylic Waterfall Landscape Art

Acrylic Waterfall Landscape Painting

This is a small 5.5 x 7.5 inch acrylic painting on unprimed matt board that I recently painted. with the  Basics Liquitex brand of acrylics.

The landscape painting is of waterfalls surrounded by green vegetation and trees, with rocks in a flowing river. It took about one and half hours to paint.

Schnauzer Pen and Ink Art

The pen and ink drawing of a Schnauzer was from a challenge on an art forum. Art challenges can take various forms, in this particular challenge photos were posted and artists could pick which ones they would like to draw or paint, then post their art interpretation of the photo to the forum.

This  dog pen and ink portrait drawing was made with a Micron pen with a .05 point.

Painting Abstracts

Here's my attempt at painting an abstract with acrylics. It didn't turn out exactly as I would have liked, but it was a learning experience that's for sure. It showed me that painting abstracts isn't as easy as I thought it would be, it's not all  randomness, the artist needs to know what they are doing (which I apparently don't, at least it didn't feel like I did while I was painting it).

I also came to see that it takes a lot of creativity and imagination to compose an abstract as you are moving paint around  on the canvas. But maybe the biggest eye opener is It takes a lot of layers of acrylic paint to make abstract art. So being the frugal person that I am, I probably won't be painting one any time soon.

Cat Abstract Art
I have been experimenting (if you want to call it that) painting animals and landscapes in a more abstract style such as this acrylic painting of a black and white Tuxedo cat.

The original is actually a digital painting composed with a graphics program. You can buy the digital painting on various products including posters and pillows at www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/176609526  Premium art prints of it are also sold in my online sales gallery
